"Sad to inform that Life Bookshop chain in Singapore has closed down all its branches. Too bad, it served the Christian community in Singapore for so many years. Apparently the company went broke. Sad. Now there isnt a Christian Bookstore in the west side of Singapore (barring church based ones)"

I am a fan of Life Bookshop. Used to remember my schooling days where I would hang around that bookstore for hours, browsing and listening to all the latest music CDs. My favourite store was the one at Jurong Point. Lotsa presents, bookmarks, books were bought from that place. It's a small little paradise for me! When the Sengkang branch closed down, really felt a huge sense of loss, din know that its actually the whole chain of stores in Singapore! It was always easily accessible to find a Life Bookshope in huge shopping centre malls and people who walked past the stores are actually attracted by the shops. I would dare say also that pre-believers were also attracted to the shop because of its warm and friendly atmosphere...
I know that there are plenty of other similiar stores like ACTS bookstore, Tecman, Mount Zion etc but its really not the same la...

It is evident that a christian bookstore will not make it if it market itself as a Christian bookstore.
Reasons:
1. Not enough market of christians
2. Resources only appealing to Christians and not non-christians to generate revenue
3. Difficulty going international in order to reach bigger markets as muslim countries may not allow you permit to do business.
So need to be like Borders or Times which cater to all, but if it is a Christian business then more emphasis would be done on the collection of christian materials.
This way non-Christian can also be reached when they enter into the bookstore thru the books and staff.
